The main theme of my work is space and how we perceive it. It's about space behind the space, the in-between spaces. By observing systems, rhythms and movement, and specially structures found in nature, I made a series of line drawings in the attempt to grasp the common structure between objects and supposedly empty space. One day, as I was walking around a lake in the near areas of Berlin, thinking about what is space... what is emptiness, about rhythm, lines and planes, my eyes got caught by a drawing made through the broken boughs of water plants that were standing in the middle of the lake. The lines and geometric shapes from the water plants reflected in the dark water of the lake made fascinating geometrical compositions. I took a series of photos that became the basis of drawings and paper-cuts of my actual work, be it for the paintings, murals or objects. Geometry is, therefore, the language I use to explore those structures and to apprehend what otherwise cannot be grasped.
In fact, the tensioned field in which my work develops is between the subtitle, almost the impossibility of a representation of a dramatic scientific space which is always moving – a folding space. This been explored in a minimalistic aesthetic, a concentrated form of the absolutely necessary.
Thus, I've been researching different tendencies of art found in Brazil as well as European Tradition such as concrete art, constructivism, neo concrete, and dadaism. I ́am specially interested in how artists like Lygia Clark, Almycar de Castro and Mira Schendel explored the limits of formal two-dimensional space, questioning through the abstract art the status quo - the way we see and interact with our surroundings.
